FORMER ARSENAL defender Martin Keown claimed Mesut Ozil must be ‘concerned’ with comments made by his manager Unai Emery.
The German was left out of Arsenal’s 2-1 away win against Bournemouth last week with Emery citing the physicality of the game was why Ozil did not play.
Ozil was left out of Arsenal’s recent 2-1 win against Bournemouth
Emery said: “We thought how we can do better in the match, a very demanding match with physicality and intensity.”
The comments made by Emery left Keown questioning what Ozil’s mentality must be like, as the former Arsenal skipper spoke to the Daily Mail.
Keown said: “Ozil must be asking himself why he is not in the team.
“He will point to the draw with Liverpool – Arsenal’s best performance of the season – and can say that result was delivered with him in the team.
Emery believed the physicality of the game would not suit Ozil
Ozil has played ten games this season scoring three goals
“As a player, I would have been concerned reading Emery’s comments after the Bournemouth game.
“Emery will have been talking about the same things with Ozil day in, day out on the training pitch and will have felt that he had given the player enough chances.
“But I fully expect Ozil to come back into the side for this game.”
Arsenal face bitter London rivals Tottenham in their next game at home, and Ozil is expected to find his way back into Emery’s starting 11.
Ozil will be hoping to regain his place in the London derby against Spurs
The Gunners are currently fifth in the league, one point behind Chelsea and three behind Spurs.
Arsenal are currently 11 games unbeaten with their only two losses coming against Manchester City and Chelsea in their opening fixtures.
This form has led Keown to predict an Arsenal win against Spurs tomorrow.
He said: “I believe Arsenal can win this game. It won’t be a ‘1-0 to the Arsenal’ performance… so I’m going to go with 2-1.”
